Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before your next session. If your question isn't here, get in touch and we'll sort it out.

Lure Performance
What retrieve speed works best with the Boofhead?

A slow to medium roll retrieve works best. Let the lure do the work, but never be afraid to speed things up — steady pressure with occasional pauses near structure.

Will it hold its action in dirty or fast-moving water?

Yes. The Boofhead is tuned to run true in current. In fast or discoloured water, slow your retrieve and let the action do the work.

Can I use the Boofhead for trolling?

Yes. It runs true at trolling speeds between 2–5 km/h, making it ideal for covering flats and edges near timber.

What's the best way to work it around heavy timber and snags?

Cast past the snag and retrieve through it. If it deflects off timber, pause — that's often when a cod strikes.

Product and Sizing
What species is the Boofhead 120mm designed for?

Primarily Murray Cod, but also golden perch in rivers and impoundments.

What is the difference between the 6m and 10m diving depth?

The 6m model suits shallower runs and tight cover. The 10m digs deeper and holds depth longer on the retrieve.

Which depth should I start with if I'm not sure?

Start with the 6m. It covers most river scenarios and is easier to work in timber-heavy environments.

How does the 120mm compare to the 90mm Boofhead?

The 120mm displaces more water and is better suited to larger cod. The 90mm works well in shallower water, it's a dream to cast all day.

What colours are available?

We stock natural baitfish patterns, chartreuse, firetiger, and a few cod-specific colours. Check the product page for current stock.

Build and Hardware
How tough is the hardware on the Boofhead?

All hooks and split rings are heavy-gauge and rated for big cod. The body is reinforced with a through-wire frame.

Will the hooks hold up on a big cod strike?

Yes. We use Decoy trebles rated to handle the hard runs and head shakes cod are known for.

Is the lure body durable enough for repeated use?

The body is ABS hard body with a double-coated finish. It handles timber, rocks, and repeated fish contact well.
